KATON® 3000 SERIES - FKM TYPE-3 O-Ring

The KATON®3000 SERIES O-Ring is a high-performance fluororubber (FKM) seal specifically designed for automotive and industrial applications. This series contains 70% fluorine and is made using a peroxide vulcanization system, classified as a terpolymer under ASTM D1418 standards. It offers significant advancements in resistance to refrigerants, lubricants, and fuels, making it highly suitable for modern environmental and industry requirements.

Key Features:
Environmental Adaptation: The KATON® TYPE-3 Series O-Ring was developed in response to global regulations limiting the use of refrigerants with high ozone depletion potential. This led to the introduction of R-134a refrigerants in the automotive sector, replacing CFCs. KATON® TYPE 3 O-Rings excel in compatibility with R-134a and other low-ozone refrigerants, positioning them as superior alternatives to traditional HNBR rubber seals.
Excellent Cold and Heat Resistance: This series maintains optimal sealing performance at both high and low temperatures, with operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to 230°C. It also offers exceptional resistance to extreme pressures and prevents blowout failures in demanding applications.

Advanced Fuel and Coolant Resistance:

The O-Ring is highly resistant to automotive fuels (gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas), transmission oils, brake fluids, power steering fluids, and hydraulic oils. This makes it the ideal choice for critical sealing applications in automotive fuel and fluid systems, especially under varying temperature and pressure conditions.

Low Permeability:

Designed for minimal fuel and refrigerant permeability, the TYPE-3 Series O-Ring has been engineered for long-term performance and durability. It outperforms other elastomers, including FVMQ fluorosilicone, VMQ silicone rubber, and HNBR hydrogenated nitrile rubber, with a lifespan up to 30 times greater.

Peroxide Cross-Linking for Enhanced Performance:

Compared to the KATON® HNBR Series, the KATON® TYPE-3 Series uses a proprietary organic peroxide cross-linking system, which offers better appearance, heat resistance, and durability across a wider temperature range. It provides improved flexibility and mechanical strength, even in the most demanding environments.

Solvay MOVE Monomer Technology:
This proprietary technology ensures the O-Rings maintain excellent resistance to various pressures and environmental conditions, along with a highly cross-linked structure that minimizes leakage and extends the life of the seals.

Superior Chemical Resistance:
The KATON®3000 SERIES O-Rings surpass KATON®1000 SERIES  and KATON®2000 SERIES in their ability to resist automotive fuels, lubricating oils, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. They also offer superior protection against exposure to non-flammable hydraulic fluids (HFD) and numerous organic solvents and chemicals.

KATON®3000 SERIES O-RINGS

  • KATON® 3000 SERIES / FKM-Type 3 O-Ring
The KATON®/Fluorocarbon rubber FKM-Type 3 O-ring is a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene, tetrafluoroethylene, and PMVE, containing 70% fluorine. Its two major characteristics are superior solvent resistance compared to the dimer and exceptional resistance to chemical agents, along with a high price point. It is resistant to most oils and solvents, with the exception of ketones and esters, and also exhibits low-temperature resistance.
