KATON®2000 SERIES - FKM TYPE-2 O-RING

Operating Temperature Range: -5°C to 200°C

The KATON® FKM TYPE-2 O-RING Series is specifically designed for use in electronics, chemical plants, and pipelines that handle chemical gases, liquids, and high temperatures. This fluororubber variety contains 70% fluorine and uses a peroxide vulcanization system, making it a robust option for various industrial applications.

Key Features:
High Performance: Classified under ASTM D1418, the KATON® FKM TYPE-2 Series O-Rings offer significantly longer service life compared to standard VITON O-Rings, with up to 30 times the lifespan of traditional elastomers like FVMQ fluorosilicone rubber, FKM TYPE-1 rubber, and VITON fluororubber.

Excellent Chemical Resistance:

These O-Rings are engineered to withstand the most rigorous chemical environments, including pipelines containing hydrofluoric acid, acetic acid, ammonia, steam, sulfuric acid, and isopropanol.

Peroxide Cross-Linking:

Compared to DuPont's VITON Series, the KATON® FKM TYPE-2 Series features a peroxide cross-linking system, offering superior chemical and temperature resistance, while maintaining a lower relative cost and higher cross-link density, reducing leakage risks.
Versatile Applications: This series is suitable for high-temperature pipelines in both chemical and electronic industries, offering reliable sealing performance across a range of applications.

Detectable O-Rings for Contamination Control:
The KATON® FKM TYPE-2 Series also includes metal-detectable O-Rings and rubber seals designed to work with detection equipment (such as X-ray machines, metal detectors, and magnetic separators). These seals are embedded with magnetic metal fillers, allowing contamination to be quickly identified and isolated, reducing the risk of final product contamination and enabling rapid preventive maintenance (PM) responses.

If more common materials fail to meet the specific requirements of your detection system, MAXMOLD® offers rapid prototyping of custom formula materials to confirm performance.

Suitability for Food, Beverage, and Pharmaceutical Processing:
These O-Rings are designed to resist degradation over time and through repeated cleaning and sterilization in place (CIP/SIP). As elastomer seals degrade, the risk of contamination from rubber fragments increases, making detectable seals a crucial safety feature in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical processing.

KATON®2000 SERIES O-RINGS

  • KATON®2000 Series/FKM-Type 2 O-Ring
The KATON®/Fluorocarbon rubber FKM-Type 2 O-ring is a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene, and tetrafluoroethylene, containing 68% fluorine. Its two major characteristics are superior solvent resistance compared to the dimer and exceptional resistance to chemical agents, along with a moderate price. It is resistant to most oils and solvents, with the exception of ketones and esters.

  • Not Recommended For:

    • Ketones (e.g., MEK)
    • Hot water and steam
    • Brake fluids
    • Alkalis and Skydrol® fluids
    • Ammonia, amines, and Skydrol 500
    • Low-molecular organic acids (formic and acetic acids)
    • By incorporating KATON® FKM TYPE-2 O-Rings into critical sealing applications, industries can ensure long-term durability, superior chemical resistance, and enhanced safety features with the metal-detectable variant.
